Holiday Weight Gain
By Brian Gallichan
The holiday season is the most dangerous time of the year as far as weight gain is concerned. The reason for this is because there is so much compromising during the holidays.
After all, it is the holidays, so we might as well eat a little extra pumpkin pie. Not to mention the turkey, stuffing, candied yams, fruitcake, eggnog, and cranberry sauce.
Holiday weight gain can be avoided. First, we need to resolve in ourselves not to go to a holiday party hungry. Holiday parties can be a lot of fun whether you eat or not.
Make up your mind to concentrate on friends and family at holiday parties instead of concentrating on extra food. Focus on talking to people and try to get so deep into the conversation that you do not even know the food is there.
Secondly, do not drink the punch. Specifically the alcohol that is in the punch. The calories in alcohol are sneaky calories. People tend to lose track of how much they have had to drink.
Some people even refuse to count calories that come from liquid. This is a mistake. At holiday parties, alcohol is usually mixed in with other fluids, and depending on the drink, you could gain a lot of weight in a short period of time.
